Two thousand years ago, the proudest boast was "civis Romanus sum." Today , in the world of freedom, the roundest boast is "Ich bin ein Berliner." I appreciate my interpeter translation my German.
There are many people in the world who really don't understand, or say they don't, what is the great issue between the free world and the Communist world.
Let them come to Berlin. There are some who say that communism is the wave of the future.
Let them come to Berlin . Another are some who say, in Europe and elsewhere, we can wrk with the Communists.
Let therm come to Berlin. And there are enen a few who say hat it is true that communism is an evil system, but it persists us to make economic progress.

Freedom has many difficulties and democracy is not perfect. But we have never had put a wall up to keep our on behalf of my countrymen who live many miles away on the other side of the Atlantic, who are far distant from you, that there take the greatest pride that they have been new to share with you even from a distance, the story of the last 18 years .
I know of no town, no city, that has been besieged for 18 years that still lives with the vitality and the force and the force, and the determination of west Berlin.
兩千年前最神氣的一句話是：我是羅馬公民！今天，在自由世界裹，最神氣的一句話是：我是柏林人。感謝我的翻譯人員教我如何講這一句德語。
世界上還有很多人不了解，或說他們根本就不明白，自由世界與共產國家之間的根本分岐，那麼就讓他們來一趟柏林吧！

對於那些在歐洲或其他還在主張與共產國家合作的人，讓他㒲來柏林走一趟吧！
還有認為共產主義盡管邪惡，但郤可以使我們達到經濟成長的少數人，那麼「Lass’Sie nach Berlin Kommen(讓他們來柏林吧！)」都讓這些人來柏林看一看吧！
自由會讓我們面臨很多難題，民主亦非完美，但我們再怎麼樣也不會高築城牆將人民圍起來，不准他們離開。我想說的是，我代表我的同胞，他們居住在與您們遙遙相望的大西洋彼岸，但即使與你們相隔千里，但是對於能夠陪伴你們走過十八年，他們深感無比驕傲。
我從沒見過一個城巿，能夠在被重重包圍了十八年之後，還能像西柏林一樣保留如此生機、力量、希望與決心！
